How To Use A Ouija Board

I have always been mystified by Ouija boards aka spirit boards all my life. But I never really knew how to use one properly. Hopefully we can explain how to use the Ouija correctly. Ouija simply means ‘yes’ in French. It has been known as a communication device between humans and non-human spirits, such as ghosts, in many different cultures. The board consists of the letters of the alphabet, numbers 0 to 9 and two words which are ‘yes’ and ‘no’ printed on its surface. It is usually square with a hole in the middle for two people to place their fingers so that they can contact spirits while asking them questions or have them answer questions that one may think of with an answer provided by the spirits via movement of the planchette, a small heart-shaped piece of wood or plastic over which players place their fingers during use.

Ouija boards are meant to be used as communication devices between humans and spirits. They are not meant to do any harm. The idea behind the spirit board is that if two people, or more use it, it can affect their minds to the point where they can communicate with the ‘spirit world’ through a variety of means- such as automatic writing (the act of writing by hand without using pen and paper), automatic drawing, automatic voice blogging, etc. This is possible according to legend because spirits often move things like pencils around while they are in the spirit world and therefore move them around on a Ouija board. Ouija boards were also invented over 150 years ago and have been used regularly since that time.

Background of Ouija Boards

Ouija boards have been in existence for over 150 years, starting in 1851. Ouija boards were invented around the same time as the telegraph, the telephone, and the radio and can be traced back to 1884. The first manufacturer of Ouija boards was Elijah Bond who is known today as a spirit medium. He marketed his Ouija board as a “harmless amuse-me-for-an-hour” device. The popularity of his board caused it to have many imitators and even some spiritual teachings because of its ability to communicate with spirits.

The Ouija board was used by many famous people, such as Jane Roberts, who is more famously known to those who have followed her writings and teachings as Seth, and William Butler Yeats, one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century. During the late 1800s to early 1900s in America in New York in particular, it was believed that Ouija boards were evil and would bring evil spirits to possess the user. This belief was often held by many religious people who did not accept that spirits could be contacted via fingers on a board made of wood or plastic.

Ouija boards originated from a game called ‘The Ouija’ in the 19th century. The game was named after the French planchette which is a flat piece of wood with alphabet letters on it. Players would move the planchette across the surface of this board, resting their fingers upon it. Sometimes they would seek advice on personal matters without any relation to spiritualism or religion. This game was initially used recreationally until its discovery that some individuals claimed to receive messages from beyond the grave and also noted instances of possession by spirits through automatic writing, automatic drawing and automatic voice blogging.
